Our family is from all parts of Europe; England, Ireland, and Scotland.   After the passing of my mother I decided to concentrate on her Harwood ancestors from Durham and  Yorkshire, England. (For photos of Durham, see below or look under PEOPLE then select Stories).  Whether it was personal, financial or economic strife, these early pioneers decided, with the  offering of free land from Canada, to take a long journey to the unknown.  It was in the 1880s that  her great grandfather James and his family decided to 'cross-the-pond', as the saying goes, to  Manitoba, Canada.
